Drunken AR personnel detain Ambulance carrying patient, harass driver at Khudengthabi

Weeks after Myanmar Government authority had raised the issue of frequent checking and harassment to their citizen by Assam Rifles along the Imphal – Moreh road, a drunk Assam Rifles reportedly detained an ambulance carrying a lady patient at Khudengthabi check post for over 30 minutes despite plea by the driver of the vehicle. The incident happened 2 days back (Oct 26, 2018). As per report a lady patient was being taken towards Imphal for an Emergency treatment in an Ambulance of Sub-District Hospital Moreh late evening. When they reached Khudengthabi Checkpost a drunk personnel of 12 Assam Rifle detained them without listening to the staff of Moreh Hospital who plead that he was carrying a lady patient to Imphal on emergency. The security personnel reportedly replied them to wait for a while by saying to take permission from their Officer. The personnel didn’t come down from his bunker for a long time. The Driver of the Ambulance went up and asked them to do a little bit faster as there is an emergency patient which have to carry to Imphal for emergency treatment. The personnel of 12 Assam Rifle in the checkpoint allegedly threatened the driver to remain silent by pointing his gun towards the driver. As per report no higher officials were present and the security personnel forced the driver to open the bonnet of his vehicle. After detaining for around 30 minutes for reason known only to the drunk personnel of the AR, the ambulance was allowed to proceed after.
