In a major drug bust, a joint team of the Special Operation Team (SOT) of Senapati Police Station and D-78 CRPF seized a large consignment of WY tablets valued at approximately 24 lakh during a routine frisking operation at T. Khullen Naka checkpoint in Senapati district on Monday afternoon.
The operation was carried out around 1:00 PM when a Hyundai i20 car bearing registration number MN-03-P-8268, traveling from Imphal towards Senapati, was intercepted at the checkpoint. Upon questioning, the driver was identified as 26-year-old Makakmayum Firdosh Sharif, son of MK Abdul Helim from Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai in Imphal East.
During a thorough inspection of the vehicle, three black polythene bags suspected to contain contraband substances were discovered concealed under the bonnet. In the presence of a magistrate and the accused, the bags were opened, each revealing 50 small packets. A detailed count revealed a total of 29,974 WY tablets (amphetamine), weighing approximately 3.172 kilograms including the packaging.
Both the seized narcotics and the vehicle used for transportation were confiscated in accordance with legal procedures. The accused has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered at Senapati Police Station under relevant provisions of the law. Further investigation is underway.
