Drivers & Transporters call 48 hrs total shut down from midnight today

Drivers & Transporters of Manipur has called 48 hours total shut down in the state in protest against the open firing of gunshots to goods ferrying truck by armed miscreants on Friday.

The decision to call 48 hours total shut was taken during a resolution adopted in a joint emergency meeting of the All Jiribam Road Transport & Driver’s Union, All Manipur Road Transport Driver’s & Motor Workers Union, and the drivers of Trucks who were ferrying goods from FCI godown Jiribam to Imphal today.

The meeting held at the Railway platform Jiribam vehemently condemns the incident of firing gunshot to the loaded trucks by armed miscreants at Kaiphundai in the early hours of Friday. Condemning the incident in the strongest term,  the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers’ and Motor Workers’ Union and  All Jiribam Road Transport Driver’s Union jointly called 48 hours Total Shut Down in Manipur.

A press statement of the driver’s union urged the Manipur government to investigate the incidents properly which put in danger the lives of drivers, who are discharging their duties irrespective of road condition, weather, and other issues on the highway.

The Union cautions the government of intense agitation if they fail to take appropriate measures for the safety of drivers.

“The agitation may lead to stringent shape”, the union cautions.

The drivers union exempted all the emergency services from the purview of 48 hours Total Shut Down which will begin from today i.e 17th  April midnight and will continue up to 19 April midnight.
