Dream to upgrade DIPR into a major Dept. still not fulfilled – Dy. CM

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today said that his dream to make the Department of Information and Public Relation (DIPR) into an important government department still cannot be fulfilled due to various factors.
“We do understand that DIPR is the eyes and ears of the state government and the government too felt that this department should be treated as a priority department of the government,” Gaikhangam said. However, like human being consider food as secondary stuffs and ornaments as primary requirements the government sometimes forget its importance.
The Deputy Chief Minister said this while speaking as the Chief Guest of the 3rdFoundtion Day Celebration of Manipur Chronicle , English Daily at Manipur Press Club Imphal. The 3rd Foundation Day of the daily newspaper base at Shilchar, Assam printed by M/S Sankha Press Pvt. Ltd was also attended by Works and Transport Minister Dr.Kh. Ratan Kumar Singh, Somorjit Salam, Director DIPR, WangkhemchaShamjai, President AMWJU and Nilotpol Choudhury, Editor Manipur Chronicle as dignitaries on the dais.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam further appealed the media persons of the state not to use their pens as provocative instruments for unwanted incidents. He said media has the power to provoke the people into the direction they wanted to and if this has been utilised in positive way then the people and the society can head towards better development.
Works Minister Kh Ratan while speaking on the occasion stressed the roles of the media houses in building a welfare state. He said the people should maintain strict time frame for conducting any sort of programme or function.
DIPR Director, Somorjit Salam said the state government is trying to revamp the DIPR by creating 90 plus jobs in the department. He said after the post are field the DIPR can perform better to serve its purpose.
