Dr Santa Thokchom, a veterinary professional based in Bengaluru, has been honoured with the Woman Veterinarian Award for Excellence in Pet Care Services in recognition of her contribution to veterinary sciences and animal welfare.
Dr Santa was among 30 women veterinary professionals from across the country who received the award at a ceremony held at ITC Maurya, New Delhi, on August 29, 2026. The award was presented by Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel.
The award recognises Dr Santa’s contributions to veterinary science and her dedication to animal health, pet care and animal welfare in India. A specialist in Animal Genetics and Breeding, Dr Santa has around 17 years of professional experience in handling and treating a wide range of animals and pets. Over the years, she has also been associated with prominent animal welfare organisations, including People for Animals (PFA) and CUPA.
In 2020, she founded Dr Santa Animal Healthcare in Bengaluru, which has grown into one of the city’s major state-of-the-art animal healthcare facilities. Through the hospital, Dr Santa has focused on providing advanced veterinary care and healthcare services for pets and animals.
