Dr. Chourasia holds charge of Managing Director MSPDCL

After the service re-engagement of Ng. Subhachandra, Managing Director, and H. Shantikumar, Executive Director (Tech) of the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) were stayed by an order of the Manipur High Court, the government of Manipur has appointed Dr. Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, IAS, Commissioner cum Secretary (Power/ Sericulture), Govt. of Manipur and also Officer-in-Charge of the Public Grievance Redressal, Anti-corruption cell, CMO as in-Charge of the Managing Director of the MSPDCL from yesterday.
An order in this connection has been issued by the Deputy Secretary (DP), Government of Manipur on March 23, 2023. In the order, it is stated that Dr. Shailesh Kumar Chourasia shall hold the charge of MD/MSPDCL without any extra remuneration, in addition to his normal duties with immediate effect and until further orders in the public interest.
Mentioned may be made that the Government of Manipur had extended the service period of Ng. Subhachandra and Hijam Santikumar as MD and ED of MSPDCL for a period of one year by an order issued on January 5, 2023. The service period of Subhachandra ended on February 28, 2023. And since then the post of Managing Director MSPDCL remain vacant causing immense inconveniences to the regular supply of electricity to the consumers.
It may also be mentioned that a case of corruption, that was filed against Ng. Subhachandra and Hijam Santikumar to Lokayukta Manipur for the misappropriation of funds during the time of implementation of the Saubhagya Scheme is still pending with the Lokayukta Manipur for reason best known to the Chairperson of the Lokayukta Manipur.
