Dr. Bimol Akoijam stresses civic responsibility while inaugurating Public Lavatory

Lok Sabha MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam today inaugurated a new public lavatory at Kwakeithel Market, Imphal West, constructed under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) for the year 2024–2025. The event was also attended by Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West, local leaders, and market vendors.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Akoijam said that the essence of development lies not merely in building infrastructure but in nurturing civic values and responsibility. “Real change begins from within us,” he said. “Every citizen must treat community assets as their own. Public facilities like this belong to everyone, and it is our shared duty to maintain them with care and discipline.”
He further noted that maintaining cleanliness in public spaces reflects the character of society and called upon the people to collectively ensure that the new lavatory remains clean and functional for all users.
Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar, in his remarks, urged market-goers and vendors to cooperate in maintaining the facility’s hygiene. He said the success of such community projects depends on public participation and a sense of ownership.
The newly inaugurated lavatory, built under the MPLADS Fund, aims to improve sanitation and hygiene at Kwakeithel Market—one of the busiest trading hubs in Imphal West. The initiative reflects Dr. Akoijam’s continued effort to promote community welfare and responsible citizenship through practical and people-oriented projects.
