Forum for Peace and Restoration Manipur today expressed strong exception to the provocative bias statement of some political party leaders which hurt the sentiments of other communities that are not in the conflict but working to find a solution to the over five months old crisis in Manipur.
Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today at Manipur Press Club, Convenor of the peace initiative Ashang Kashar said that RPI (Athawale) General Secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam while speaking in public platform often said that unless the Kukis are totally wiped out from the region there will be no end to the ongoing crisis. He also often said that the Meitei should be ready to prepare for the next mission. Who are the next community that Maheshwar Thounaojam is referring to, Is it the Nagas or the Meitei Pangal Community that the political party leader is referring too?, Asang Kashar asked.
“We appreciate Th. Maheshwar, The one who is actively involved in the campaigning. However, his statement against all Kuki, that the ongoing crisis can never be ended unless all the Kukis are wiped out from the region, the Convenor of the Peace Restoration Committee said. He added that this kind of statement has created anger to all other communities like the Naga and the Meitei Pangal.
There are various communities in Manipur. One should not work for one community only. One should not speak provocative statements that would hurt the sentiments of other communities.
The Forum for Peace and Restoration Manipur Convenor said that Th. Maheshwar should restrain provocative and one-sided statement that may incite enmity among various communities in the state.
The Forum for Peace and Restoration Manipur also expressed shock at the fire incident by armed miscreants at Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai that injured at least 5 civilians. At a time when the people of the state are working hard for the restoration of peace this kind of hooliganism should not be repeated and those responsible for the firing should be awarded befitting punishment. The FPRM questions the government over the failure to control such barbaric criminal acts. Where are the security forces? Where is the law and order? This shows that there is no government. If there is a government why do they remain as a mute specter to any activities of gunmen in the state? Those involved should be arrested immediately. If such an act is repeated then other communities living together will also come up against it as it may be a threat to other communities in Imphal.
The FPRM is working for the restoration of peace and harmony. Among the works, some can’t be put in the public domain, and some can be highlighted. However, we are working in different capacities for the restoration of peace.
Amidst this various groups or individuals have been spreading false propaganda to provoke the crisis. We appeal to those people or organization ad especially those active on social media to restrain provocative statements as that would hamper the peace initiative taken up by FPRM.
The Spread of rumours and provocative statements through social networking sites should be stopped, Ashang Kashar said. He also appealed to the government to remove security forces deployed as escort from individuals who are not entitled to security escort.
