Don’t say BJP since Meitei BJP MLAs didn’t demand Separate Administration - A. Sharda Devi

BJP Manipur President Adhikarimayum Sharda has said not to say ‘BJP’ since Meitei BJP MLAs did not demand a separate administration. This was in response to a journalist’s inquiry regarding the party’s stance on BJP MLAs among the 10 MLAs seeking a separate administration.
“Don’t label them as BJP MLAs; the Meitei MLAs didn’t demand a separate administration,” she said. Sharda emphasized, “Please discuss who is genuinely advocating for a separate administration. Is it spearheaded by the BJP MLAs? And what drives their request? No matter the party, ten MLAs alone cannot make such a demand.”
Seemingly pointing fingers at the previous government, she remarked, “The records from prior administrations have compromised the efforts to safeguard Manipur’s integrity. As we work to correct these records for the benefit of future generations in Manipur, certain incidents have occurred.”
When questioned about the BJP’s stance on its MLAs among the 10 seeking a separate administration, the BJP president deflected with inquiries of her own: “Why were areas of Imphal West transformed into the Autonomous District Council? Can you explain? Forget about BJP MLAs or Ministers, Why was Thangjing renamed to Thangting? I’d like an answer.”
As journalists persisted, emphasizing the involvement of BJP MLAs, Sharda retorted: “Have BJP MLAs assaulted the Meiteis of Manipur? Have BJP MLAs attacked Meiteis? Do you genuinely believe BJP MLAs would harm Meitei?”
When pressed further about the 10 MLAs, Sharda deflected, questioning, “Why was Thangjing renamed to Thangting? And why was the Imphal West district transformed into an Autonomous District Council? Answer that. Who’s truly trying to divide Manipur? Don’t point at BJP MLAs, especially when Meitei MLAs haven’t called for a separate administration.”
Sharda commented while attending a naming ceremony at the Khuman Lampak Relief Camp for a baby born amidst ongoing conflicts. The parents, Mahesh Chingtham and Radha, named their first child ‘Langamba’, because he was born during ‘war.’
