The Department of Philosophy, Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), organised the World Philosophy Day Symposium 2025 today at the Conference Hall, Principal’s Office Building, DM College of Arts. The event, held under the theme “Importance of Philosophy in Life,” brought together faculty members, invited guests, and students from various semesters to reflect on the continuing relevance of philosophical inquiry.
Prof. S. Lanchenba Meetei, Dean of the School of Humanities, DMU and Principal, DM College of Arts, attended the programme as Chief Guest. Former Principal of DM College of Arts, Dr. A. Dorendra Singh, and former Head of the Department of Philosophy, DMU, Dr. Kh. Gokulchandra Singh, were present as Guests of Honour. Dr. Sarat Sarma, Head of the Department of Philosophy (PG), presided over the function.
The programme began at 10:00 a.m. with the arrival of invitees, followed by a welcome address, lighting of the lamp, and presentation of tokens of appreciation. Speeches were delivered by the Guest of Honour, the Chief Guest, and the President, each highlighting the necessity of philosophical thinking in shaping rational, ethical, and socially responsible individuals.
The student symposium started at 1:00 p.m., featuring presentations from undergraduate and postgraduate students on themes such as existentialism, Stoicism, sapientiae in Augustine, Kantian moral life, Hegelian consciousness, and the role of philosophy in mental health. Each presenter was allotted five minutes.
The event provided a platform for young scholars to articulate their perspectives and shows the department’s commitment to promoting philosophical dialogue amid the state’s ongoing challenges.
