DMCC urges withdrawal of President’s Rule, calls for restoration of democracy in Manipur

New Delhi, Feb 16:

The Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC), during a consultative meeting held on February 15, passed a resolution pressing for urgent action on various issues concerning Manipur.
In a statement, the committee urged the Government of India to revoke President’s Rule and reinstate democratic governance in the state without further delay. It also called for all Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement to be declared unlawful organizations, followed by a full-scale crackdown on them.
The DMCC criticized what it termed as the flawed Burma policy of the central government, alleging that it provided indirect support to Kuki militant groups. It stressed the need for a balanced and unbiased security approach, ensuring that all armed groups responsible for violence and acting against the Indian Constitution are held accountable.
Additionally, the committee reiterated its demand for the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) and the cessation of what it described as military rule imposed by the BJP-led government. It also called for the Prime Minister’s immediate intervention to restore peace in Manipur by initiating a dialogue between the Meetei and Kuki communities.
Another key demand made by the DMCC was the removal of the Union Home Minister, whom it accused of failing to bring stability to the region. The committee strongly condemned the BJP and the central government for allegedly engineering political instability in Manipur, supporting Kuki militant groups, and enforcing military rule under the guise of President’s Rule and AFSPA.
The DMCC asserted that, at this critical juncture, restoring public confidence among all communities should be the top priority instead of imposing President’s Rule.
