DMCC urges Speaker to facilitate bi-partisan consultation on Manipur crisis

The Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC) has submitted a formal letter to the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, urging immediate political consultation to address the continuing crisis in Manipur. The letter was submitted on Friday through Manipur Bhawan, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi.
In the representation, the committee appealed to the Speaker to convene a joint consultative meeting involving the Delhi Meetei Co-Ordinating Committee and elected Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly belonging to both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress. The appeal comes at a time when legislators from Manipur are reportedly present in the national capital to attend their respective party meetings.
The committee stated that more than one and a half million Meetei people remain confined to the central valley, while Kuki communities are unable to enter the valley, reflecting what it described as an unprecedented breakdown of social, political and administrative order in the state. It said the continuing restrictions on movement and forced segregation represent one of the gravest crises in Manipur’s history.
The letter further highlighted that tens of thousands of people continue to live in relief camps, deprived of normal livelihoods, education, healthcare and basic human dignity even after prolonged displacement. The continued existence of such camps, it said, points to a serious humanitarian failure and prolonged political inaction.
At this critical juncture, the committee stressed that political differences must be set aside and called upon leaders of both national parties from Manipur to stand together to safeguard the unity, integrity and survival of the state.
Drawing a parallel with national unity displayed during major crises, the committee recalled instances when political parties across the spectrum acted collectively in the national interest. In the same spirit, it urged Manipur leaders of both parties to unite in Delhi and initiate a coordinated, bipartisan response to the humanitarian, political and constitutional challenges facing the state.
The committee maintained that the people of Manipur deserve unity, leadership and decisive action, rather than continued silence and division.
