Considering the grave situation in flood affected villages of Thoubal district, the Deputy Commissioner Thoubal has entrusted the District Youth Coordinator, NYK Thoubal to lead a team coming from Adventist Development & Relief Agency, India (ADRA) to assess the immediate needs of the flood affected people in Thoubal district, Manipur.
The team visited at Wangoo, Nungoo, Khongyam and Tangjeng villages under Kakching Block on the 7th August, 2015. The youth leaders of NYK Thoubal also joined in the assessment work.
While interacting with the people in the Relief Camps opened on the roadside, school, Community Halls at Wangoo Tampha Lairembi, Wangoo Tera, Wangoo Sandangkhong, Chairel Makha Leikai, Nungoo, Khongyam villages it was revealed that the Local MLA has distributed rations.
It was also reported that some people got water but there is acute shortage of drinking water in all the camps. Approximately 7500 people in 1500 families have been affected in the area. Many houses collapsed, inundated and many people are taking shelter at safer places. The Police Station, the Primary Health Centre and Educational Institutions at Wangoo is affected by flood and shifted to the nearby temple and youth club buildings. The immediate need, requirement of the people is health care, drinking water, food items, candle and vaccination to the domestic animal and cattle.
The Mobile medical team deputed by the District Magistrate and Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal visited the camps and distributed medicines. But it needs to be reinforcing with adequate supply of medicine and Medical Officers. The youth club leaders are helping the Panchayat members in distribution of relief materials and transportation of household materials of the affected families.
