Disabled persons are not the burden of the state they can also contribute to the society, said the newly elected general secretary of the State Platform of Disabled People’s Organisation (SPDPO), Manipur.
Speaking to media in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, President, SPDPO, Dr Sapam Jashobanta said that SPDPO was first established in April 24, 2011 with the aim to empower disabled people of the state and make them live freely without any social barriers. After a general election new office bearers have been selected for the upcoming three years. The list of selected members are Kamlienlal Samto has been elected as General Secretary, M. Amarjit Singh as Joint Secretary, Md Yunus Khan as Games and Sport’s Secretary, Min Chingningkim as Finance Secretary, etc.
Kamlienlal Samto, General Secretary said that being a disabled person is not a pleasant thing but as the war of development goes on, they cannot be neglected too. Talking about the upcoming plan, he said that the organisation will organise awareness program demanding social acceptance of the disabled people by the people of the state. There are lots of beneficiaries listed in the constitution for the disabled people but when needed it is difficult to avail them. He added that disabled persons are not the burden of the state they can also contribute to the society for the welfare of the state.
