The District Health Society (DHS), Kangpokpi, on Monday launched the first round of the National Deworming Day (NDD) 2026 at Kangpokpi High School, marking the beginning of a district-wide campaign aimed at improving child health.
The programme was attended by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Lamminlal Simte, who also serves as Chairman of DHS, Kangpokpi, as the Chief Guest. James Doujapao Haokip, CEO of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council (SH-ADC), graced the event as Guest of Honour, while Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Paokai Kipgen presided as Functional President.
Delivering the keynote address, District Nodal Officer for Child Health Dr. Lhingdei Thangeo stressed the importance of deworming children between the ages of 1 and 19 years to prevent the adverse effects of parasitic infections. She highlighted the government’s initiative of providing free Albendazole tablets, underscoring its crucial role in ensuring proper growth and development among children.
Officially launching the programme, ADM Lamminlal Simte emphasized that a single deworming tablet plays a vital role in preventing malnutrition and improving concentration among children. He lauded the coordinated efforts of the health department, ASHA workers, and ICDS supervisors, and urged teachers to ensure that every student in the district is covered under the campaign.
