Imphal, June 17:

The Democratic Students’ Alliance Manipur has launched protests against alleged irregularities in the recruitment of pre-primary teachers by the education department, calling for the removal of high-ranking officials.
In Thoubal, Keisam Robinson, Secretary General of DESAM Thoubal District Council, led a protest by burning effigies of these officials from the education department. Robinson’s primary concern was the fairness of the education sector, advocating for transparency in the teacher training selection process. He emphasized equal opportunities for all candidates, including those pursuing courses to become doctors and engineers after completing Class XII.
Another critical issue addressed by DESAM was the qualification standards for teachers. Robinson stressed adherence to NCTE rules to ensure teachers are adequately trained and qualified, maintaining educational standards.
The council also demanded the resignation of key education sector officials, including the Education Minister, Commissioner, and Director of Education (S), citing mismanagement and irregularities.
Additionally, DESAM called for the unconditional release of their workers reportedly arrested recently, expressing concerns over their treatment and legal status. Acknowledging recent government actions to address irregularities and promote accountability, DESAM appreciated efforts to ensure transparency in governance.
The protest in Thoubal District drew participants from various regions, including Thoubal Bazar and Wabagai Lamkhai in Kakching District, highlighting widespread community dissatisfaction with governance issues and the pressing need for reforms.
