DESAM highlights MPSC Exam controversies

IT News
Imphal, Aug 10:

The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has raised serious concerns regarding irregularities in the 2022 Manipur Civil Service Combined Competitive (Prelims) Examination conducted by the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). In a press statement released today, DESAM outlined multiple issues in the examination process, particularly focusing on errors in the question paper and discrepancies in the answer keys.
DESAM pointed out that in Paper II of the 2022 prelims exam, two questions were erroneous, leading to negative marking for aspirants who answered them. The organization argues that these mistakes have unfairly penalized candidates, calling for immediate rectification.
One major issue highlighted is with Question No. 31, which was allegedly lifted directly from the 1996 Common Admission Test (CAT) without proper adaptation. DESAM alleges that the MPSC provided an incorrect answer key for this question, further compounding the problem. Similarly, Question No. 61, which was drawn from the 2010 Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), also contained errors, leading to further confusion and potential unfair marking.
In addition to these specific instances, DESAM criticized the overall handling of the examination process by the MPSC. They expressed concerns over the grading of answers in the General Studies (GS) Paper I, where they allege that incorrect answer options were marked, and candidates were not awarded the necessary grace marks for questions that were flawed.
DESAM also referred to a July 19, 2024, incident, where MPSC was criticized for issues in another exam conducted by the commission. DESAM has warned that if these issues are not addressed within five days, they may resort to legal action to protect the interests of the aspirants.
DESAM has called on the MPSC to urgently rectify these errors and consider the grievances of the aspirants, highlighting the necessity of a transparent and error-free examination process in maintaining public trust.
