Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) demanded to revoke the recently announced result of Pre-PhD entrance examination being conducted by department of Manipuri, Manipur University.
General Secretary of the students’ body, P Premchandra told pressmen at its Keishampat head office that the department conducted the entrance test carrying a full mark of 50 for the selection of 14 PhD students to the department on February 25, 2014.
Exceeding the number of notified seats, a total number of 18 candidates were selected when the result was first declared on February 26. And again, another result was announced on 28 last month, in which 17 candidates including a ST who secured only 13 marks were selected, Premchandra said.
The department notified only 14 seats in the advertisement for the selection of PhD students. There has not been any notification regarding the increase of seats, he added.
While maintaining the test as valid, the General Secretary of DESAM the University authority to revoke the result and conduct anew.
Meanwhile, Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) today asked the reason for declaring the result of the Pre PhD Entrance Test of Manipuri Department repeatedly.
A press statement signed by Sarangthem David, President of MUSU said that the result of the Pre PhD Entrance Test of Manipuri Department conducted on 25th February was announced in two different occasions on 26th February and 28th February, 2015.
The statement said that a candidate who does not secure the cut mark was selected in the second result which was announced on 28th February, 2015. It further said that earlier also there was an incident of selecting 101 candidates in the entrance test to pursue MA in Manipuri Department when the total requirement was only 100. The authority of Manipur University did not take any action against Professor S. Sanatombi, HOD. It also demands befitting punishment against her and to reschedule the test.
