DESAM demands disturbance free educational zone

Democratic Students of Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today organised a one day academic discussion on disturbance free educational zone at the conference hall of DM college of Science, Imphal.
Professor, N. Joykumar Singh, Department of History, Director Centre of Manipur Studies, MU was the moderator of the function.
P. Premchandra, General Secretary of DESAM said in his key note address that in a financially deprived state like Manipur there is a need of building knowledge capital and improvising knowledge industries. The reason for the prevailing unwanted situation of the state is due to lack of proper education. He also laments against monetary demands by various organisations from educational institutes in the state as it hampers educational atmosphere of those institutes. He also urges to restructure and re design the curriculum of school, colleges and universities, to stop corruption and politics free in the education sector.
Giving solidarity to the demands of DESAM for a disturbance free educational zone, students of many educational institutes of the state staged sit-in-protest in their respective campuses. Students of Manipur University also staged a sit-in-protest in front of the Main Gate of the University. Mayanglambam Shaolin who took part in the sit-in-protest said that the students of Manipur University support the demands of DESAM. He said that there are many disturbances inside the campus of the University such as frequent frisking by security while entering the gate of the University, opening up of paramilitary forces’ camp inside the campus etc.
