DESAM calls for urgent action on education infrastructure

IT News
Imphal, April 29:

The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has issued an appeal to the Education Minister regarding the critical shortage of teachers and infrastructure in schools located in the Ngaikhong area of Bishnupur District, Oinam Constituency.
In a statement released by DESAM, it was highlighted that the Ngaikhong Khullen locality is grappling with economic challenges, leading to a significant drop in student enrollment. Despite hosting four schools, namely Ngaikhong Model High School (Govt), Ngaikhong Junior High School (Govt), Ngaikhong Awang LP School (Aided), and Little Star English School (Private), the area struggles to provide adequate education facilities for approximately 1500 students ranging from pre-primary to class X.
Of these schools, only Ngaikhong High School offers education from pre-primary to class 10 and is enrolled under the government’s School Fagathansi Mission. However, the school faces a severe shortage of staff, with no headmaster in place and only an Assistant Headmaster overseeing operations. Additionally, essential positions such as Home Science and Hindi primary teachers, as well as support staff including chowkidar, peon, and LDC, remain vacant, hampering the educational experience for students.
Moreover, despite the initiation of construction for a residential hostel by the “Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Abhiyan Vidyalaya” in 2022, the project remains incomplete, further exacerbating the accommodation challenges faced by students in the area.
DESAM’s appeal to the Education Minister seeks urgent intervention to address these pressing issues and ensure that students in Ngaikhong receive quality education in a conducive environment. The organization urges swift action to fill staffing vacancies, expedite the completion of infrastructure projects, and alleviate the educational hardships faced by the local community.
