Imphal, Feb 17:
The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has raised concerns over the integrity of the upcoming Class X and XII board examinations, urging all stakeholders to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
DESAM issued an appeal regarding the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary Examinations, which are set to begin from February 17, 2025, and February 19, 2025, respectively, under the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) and the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM). The student body called upon authorities, teachers, parents, and students to prevent any form of malpractice that could undermine the credibility of the exams.
The organization emphasized that true progress of a nation depends on the quality of education and expressed concern over the increasing incidents of cheating, question paper leaks, and unethical practices during examinations. DESAM pointed out various malpractices that have been observed in past examinations, including question paper leaks due to lack of strict monitoring by the exam-conducting authorities, unfair means adopted by students with external assistance, unethical conduct by some teachers who encourage cheating instead of maintaining exam integrity, unregulated coaching centers that claim to have access to leaked questions, and parents and guardians aiding students in unfair practices instead of guiding them towards honest efforts.
DESAM asserted that such issues need to be tackled with seriousness and called upon all concerned authorities to take strict action to curb examination-related malpractices. The student body warned that failure to address these concerns would have long-term negative consequences on the overall education system.
The organization also urged students to uphold academic honesty, stating that cheating not only harms individual learning but also degrades the value of education in the state. DESAM reiterated that it will closely monitor the ongoing board examinations and ensure that necessary measures are taken to maintain the sanctity of the examination process. The student body further appealed to teachers, parents, and authorities to work collectively in ensuring a fair, transparent, and credible examination system that will truly reflect the merit and hard work of students.
