Imphal, May 16:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has leveled serious allegations against the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), claiming that it has “become a hotbed of corruption.” According to DESAM, “rampant corruption is prevalent in the recruitment process at BOSEM, with little transparency regarding the employment of staff.” The organization further asserts that the Education Minister and other higher officials are well aware of the situation but remain silent, raising questions about their possible involvement in the alleged corruption.
Additionally, DESAM has accused BOSEM of operating like a business entity, rather than a regulatory body for education. It highlights instances “where books supplied by BOSEM to organizations for distribution among conflict-affected students are not appropriately marked as not for sale, leading to confusion and potential exploitation.” Furthermore, DESAM criticizes “
the poor quality of printing paper used for the books and alleges that contracts for printing are awarded through nepotism and corrupt practices.”
In response to these allegations, DESAM calls upon the Manipur government’s Education Department to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to address the reported corruption within BOSEM.
