The continuing social tension in the state, especially in the hill districts and the particularly volatile situation in Churachandpur District which has gradually been acquiring a communal undertone has prompted the state home ministry to extend the deployment of additional Central Armed Police Forces including the Rapid Action Force, CRPF and BSF in the state. The state government was forced to seek the deployment of additional CAPFs as the state security forces proved ineffective and insufficient to control and contain the uprising by the public demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the state which resulted in the total paralysis of administration in the valley for a little over two months. According to a reliable source close to Imphal Times, the state home ministry, after due consideration and deliberation, decided on the extension of deployment of the additional central armed forces for at least a week for law and order duties as their previous period of deployment ends today.
