Imphal, April 16:

With just few days left to go on polling for the 18th Lok Sabha election, the District Election Officer of Chandel held a briefing for media personnel today at the DC complex in Chandel. Providing details during the briefing, the District Election Officer stated that the Chandel election district comprises one assembly segment, which is a part of the outer Manipur parliamentary constituency. The district boasts 80 polling stations accommodating a total of 45,678 voters, including 21,748 male and 23,930 female voters.
The District Election Officer reported that comprehensive training and briefing sessions for all polling personnel, as well as 20 sector officers and micro observers, have been successfully completed. The micro observers will be deployed to monitor the 54 critical polling stations. Among the 80 polling stations, 20 will be exclusively manned by female personnel, and one model polling station will be established.
While there are no specific polling stations designated for internally displaced voters, the district does have 835 voters marked for Special Polling Stations (VSPS) on the electoral roll. Deployment of polling personnel will commence tomorrow, April 17, with personnel assigned to 25 polling stations in interior areas such as New Samtal, located 188 km from the district headquarters, while the remaining 55 stations will be manned on April 18.
For security measures, 11 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and 7 companies of state forces will be utilized for poll duties. Of the 80 polling stations, 37 will be webcast, and 43 will be video-graphed for enhanced transparency. Additionally, five helipads have been prepared for emergency airlifting if required.
The District Election Officer assured that the district election office is fully prepared to conduct free and fair elections in the district.
