The Delhi Manipuri Academic Fraternity has expressed profound shock, grief and strong condemnation over the death of Chongtham Vikram Singh in Delhi on September 7, 2026, allegedly in a criminal incident involving a few individuals.
In a statement, Secretary Prof. Shanta Laishram said Vikram Singh was a gifted guitarist, musician and teacher who was an integral part of Delhi’s music community.
Through his association with bands including Ultra Vires, Phoenix, Eastern Dark and Fubar Ghetto, as well as years of teaching and mentoring young musicians, Vikram made a meaningful contribution to Delhi’s cultural life. His death has left a deep void in the Manipuri community and the wider artistic fraternity.
The fraternity called for a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. It said anyone found responsible for wrongdoing, negligence or criminality must be held accountable and punished in accordance with the law.
The Delhi Manipuri Academic Fraternity also expressed solidarity with Vikram’s family and loved ones and urged the authorities to establish the truth, ensure justice and uphold the dignity of the deceased.
It appealed to members of the community to remain united, peaceful and vigilant while allowing the law to take its course and ensuring that the family’s legitimate demand for truth and justice is not overlooked.
The fraternity conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and all those mourning the loss of Vikram, remembering him for his music, his contribution to young musicians and the cultural legacy he leaves behind.
