Tension once more erupted in Kumbi area after another dead body was recovered today morning in the surroundings of Wangoo Sabal Meichakpi foothills. The locals demanded the removal of Central forces from the area within three days.
Of the four missing persons the bodies of 3 were found on January 11. The dead body of the fourth person identified as Ahanthem Dara Meitei (56 years) was found today.
The four people including a father and son went missing on January 10 after suspected Kuki militants launched an attack on villagers in the Kumbi Haotak area under Kumbi police station in Bishnupur district.
The suspected Kuki militants fired two bombs and rained bullets toward Meetei villagers working at paddy fields in Kumbi Haotak area. The villagers fled from the paddy fields while panicked villagers abandoned their houses and took shelter at safer locations.
Close to the site where the four dead bodies were found is the post of a Central force (K Regiment). Villagers and social activists had expressed dissatisfaction with the inaction and silence of the SF to the terrorist act by Kuki militants.
A social activist identified as Jaya Khangembam, while talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club said that the people of the area are demanding removal of the central forces from Kumbi area as their presence does not make it secure to the people living in the area. She said that if the government fails to remove the Central forces from the area within three days the villagers along with the people will launch a serious agitation.
