Criminal Contempt case against Thounaojam Brinda: 20 more people served notice

MPS Thounaojam Brinda Devi, today appeared before Justice Lanusungkum Jamir and MR. Justice Kh. Nobin Singh at Manipur High Court today in connection with a Criminal Contempt case taken up against her. Brinda Devi strong words and stands against the granting of bail to drug lord Letkhosei Zou by the ND & PS Court on May 21, prompted the High Court to take up criminal contempt case against her.

20 more people who had supported Th. Brinda Devi, by replying to a Facebook post by Brinda devi were also directed to appear at the court on next hearing.

The High Court asked Brinda Devi if she had threatened the witness in the Court of the learned Special Judge, ND&PS on 21-05-2020 and if she showed her middle finger to the learned Special Judge, ND&PS on 21-05-2020 and if  she had posted derogatory, defamatory and contemptuous post in her Facebook account against the Special Judge (ND&PS) in particular and against the Judiciary in general.

In reply to the questions posed to the respondent Brinda Devi denied of threatening to the witness or showing middle finger. However, she admitted that about posting some comments at Facebook but prayed to grant some time to file an affidavit defending her action with regard to the questions.

The High Court also served notice to the 20 people who had supported to Th. Brinda Devi by replying comments to the Facebook post posted by Brinda Devi.

The notice served is returnable by June 17, 2020.

Respected Editor, How can you keep saying Drug Lord? He is still under investigation by the Hon'ble High Court. Being a renowned journalist, it would be good to use an appropriate term until he/someone is proven guilty.
