Craft Exhibition begins

Imphal, March 27: Encouraging the weaver and craft loving artisans of Manipur, The Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans C.S.Ltd. (AWAS) , Imphal, Manipur has organised a 6 days Craft Exhibition from march 27 to April 2, 2017 under the sponsorship of Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicratfs), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India at the Trade Centre Porompat, Imphal East.

 

Badrur Rahman, Adhyaksha, Imphal East Zilla Parishad; S Bhubol , Board Director of AWAS, P Meenakumari Devi, Project Manager of District handlooms and Textiles, Imphal East; M Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Assistant Director (Handicrafts), Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, M and SEC, Imphal attended the function as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honours respectively.

 

Speaking at the occasion, P Meenakumari Devi said that today’s craft exhibitions is the first of its kind to exhibit in the state as compare to other craft exhibition. Weaver and craft artisans should have the idea what kind of product should be exhibit in such craft mela in-order to draws the attention of the customers, she added.

 

Meenakumari also said that each weaver and craft artisans should not throw away or left behind the products which have some defect as it can be use in making other items from it that can attract customers in many ways.

 

Meanwhile, encouraging the weaver and craft loving artisans, M Sanjeev Kumar appeals the artisans who do not have their identification card of being a weaver or craftsmen, to get the card on or before March 31, 2017 so that benefits sanction by the state and central government can be avail to themselves once they have the card.

 

We must try to export more genuine products to the outside state which are unique and attracts those who have kin interest in the handloom and handicrafts products to get double benefits, he added.

Around 30 handloom and handicrafts persons are participating in the exhibitions
