Imphal, Aug 3:
Continuous rainfall over the past two to three days has led to minor landslides in Thanga Khunjem, Thanga Ngaram, and Ething. While these incidents have not yet caused significant damage, officials warn that the situation could worsen due to a 20-meter-long crack in the Thanga Khunjem road. The district commissioner has instructed residents in the surrounding areas to exercise caution and avoid the affected regions.
On August 2, one house sustained minor damage due to a landslide, resulting in the loss of some household items. MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh inspected the site and advised the affected family to relocate to a safer location.
In response to these developments, Chairman of MSPCL and MLA of Thanga assembly constituency, Tongbram Robindro Singh, conducted a comprehensive on-site assessment at Thanga Khunjem. Accompanied by officials from relevant departments, MLA Robindro and his team thoroughly evaluated the affected areas to devise strategies for mitigating the impact and ensuring the safety of the residents.
“We are committed to implementing all necessary measures to mitigate the impact of the landslide and ensure the safety of the residents. Under my supervision, efforts are underway to address the landslides in Thanga Ngaram, Ething, and Thanga Khunjem. With the aid of machinery, work is actively ongoing to clear the affected areas,” stated MLA Robindro.
MLA Tongbram Robindro Singh also appealed to the public, emphasizing the need for caution, especially given the region’s terrain and the proximity of roads to hills. “We all know that in Thanga AC, where our living style and road structures are very close to the hills, small landslides occur every rainy season, causing property damage.
“I appeal to my people of Thanga assembly constituency to refrain from digging near the hills. If such actions are necessary, please consult with relevant authorities to avoid triggering landslides,” he advised. “Lastly, please take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety,” added MLA Robindro.
