A total of 30 (thirty) Covid-19 positive patients are presently undergoing treatment at AOI Babina Specialty Hospital as recorded yesterday. Of these 5 are in ICU and 25 in general wards. 12 patients are on oxygen supports and 6 patients are on ventilators.
As per the government revise order dated June 1, 2021 in connection with the hospital charges, there is no mention about the charges in connection with PPE suit.
A patient party, while talking to Imphal Times over phone, said that at AOI Babina Specialty Hospital, the hospital authority is charging a sum of Rs. 6000/- per patient for per attendance. Generally, the team attended around half the patients undergoing covid treatment and sometimes all at a time. PPE suit can be used for at least 6 hours and within that 6 hours as many as 16 patients are treated, the patient party from the other end told Imphal Times. He then said that patient has to pay the charges of the PPE suit even though the doctor’s team doesn’t change the suit every time they visit another patient.
“The hospital charges Rs. 96,000/- (Ninety six thousand) if collected from all of the 16 patients when the actual amount spent for the PPE suit was Rs. 6,000/- only”, he added and said that during this emergency time this private hospital is looting us.
As per the government order dated June 1, 2021, Charges fixed by the government for the treatment of Covid patient at a private hospital is Rs. 3000/- for general/Isolation, Rs. 7000/- for high dependency unit, Rs. 8000/- for ICU without ventilator use and Rs. 10,000/- for ICU with ventilator used. The charges are for registration, bed charges, and Nursing and boarding charges. While it has been mention to bear additional charges for medicines, Oxygen, Pathology and Radiology test and other extra medical procedures, there is no mention that the PPE suit should be paid by the patient party.
