While the number of COVID- 19 positives is still on the rise, the over all percentage has come down to 3.50 from earlier 6.62 per cent and the viral infections will peak in Mumbai around 10 June, according to BMC Commissioner I S Chahal.
Chahal said that the percentage has come down to 1.6 to 2.4 percent in earlier hotspots like Byculla, Worli and Dharavi. Besides the daily addition of patients has come down in areas including Tardeo, Mahim, Prabhadevi, Dadar, Sion, Matunga and Santacruz, where nearly 3200 patients had tested positive earlier.
The number of positives are zooming in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses. However there is reduction in number of patients in Dharavi. In Worli and Prabhadevi nearly 2200 patients had tested positive earlier. Now the percentage has come down up to 2.2 in these areas.Similarly the percentage has come down to 2.6 to 2.7 in Grant Road and Colaba in South Mumbai.
At present the percentage is 4.5 to 6.7 in suburban areas including: Ghatkopar (4.5), Mulund, Bhandup, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar (6.4). The status in other areas include: Byculla (E ward)-1.6 percent, Dharavi (G North)-2.4, Worli(G South)-2.2, Bandra (H East)-2.3, Colaba (Award(2.7), Grant Road (D ward)-2.6 and Matunga(F North)-1.9.
On hospitals facing a shortage of ambulances, Chahal said, Mumbai has 456 ambulances. Besides 300 Innovas (Toyota Innova MUVs) have been hired from transport department. Also 50 mini buses have been hired from the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) and converted into ambulances. The BMC’s procurement of PPE kits has gone upto 4.5 lakh from earlier 40,000.
Mumbai has conducted 1.75 lakh tests, the highest number of tests done in the country by any one city. Mumbai tested 13,000 people per million-higher than Delhi’s 7000 people per million, 2000 in Gujarat or 1800 in Bengaluru, Chahal added.
