With the interference of the district administration to boost the vaccination drive, Manipur finally sees hope of survival from the attack of the deadly novel coronavirus. There are many reasons for the slow ride in the vaccination programme and till June 23, when the country is doubling the vaccination Manipur could not hike up the number of doses administered.
Covid-19 vaccination started on January 16, 2021, in the state of Manipur. The total number of vaccination administered yesterday, as reported is 5,98,404. Of these 82,814 got 2nd doses while 5,15,590 who got the first dose are waiting to get the second dose. Since the beginning, there have been some loopholes as the State Health Mission failed to increase the vaccination rate. Even after the enforcement of the revised vaccination programme the state health authority could not administer more than 4000 on average. On the third day when the revised vaccination does come into force the total number of vaccine dose administered was just 5052. And the session plan was just 79 where it was held at just 72.
Imphal Times visited at some of the area and try to find out the reason for the slow ride in the vaccination programme. When talk to around 30 selected people who live on hand to mouth, it is not that these people don’t want to be victims of the Covid-19. They have their own problem.
“The government has imposed curfew and movement of public transport has been put on hold and we don’t have vehicles to visit the vaccination site and if we walk we have to return back due to fear of the police personnel checking in the street”, 45 years old Sama (not real name) from the selected area in Imphal East said.
Some aged people whom our representative talk said that they are not clear on whether they will be safe after the vaccine as they have been living with diabetes, heart problem, etc. Experts had many times talk to mass media medium about the benefit of the vaccination , but these aged people , who are perhaps above 60 years of age could not be reached out as they are use to traditional media and interpersonal counselling.
Interestingly, some rich people including people who are aspirant candidates for local or general election want to have vaccines that are different from the vaccines that the common people are getting.
“I think , I will wait for Foreign made Covid vaccine like Spunik-V”, a rich person whom our representatives accidentally encountered told.
Except for the face mask and the sanitizers that we both, our representative took the risk and meet as many people as he can to find out the reason for the slow ride in covid vaccination programme. Our representative had taken leave and stayed in isolation, even though nothing unusual occurred as of now.
