Court releases Sharmila; to proceed protest alone at Ima Market

JMIC Imphal East today discharged the case filed by the concerned Porompat Police Station against Irom Chanu Sharmila under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) and 353 (obstruction on police duty) after the prosecution failed to produce any proper evidence against Sharmila.
Irom Chanu Sharmila is likely to be discharged in the late evening.
Speaking to media after the case hearing, Irom Chanu Sharmila said that she would no longer take support from SAKAL or take help from any individuals but she will continue fasting on her own demanding to repeal AFSPA 1958 from the state at Khwairamband Market.
Sharmila’s latest decision was taken as a mark of protest to the assault and humiliation of Desmond Coutinho by the group.
