Counter blockades against UNC’s economic blockade intensify at many places

Imphal, Dec 4: While United Naga Council (UNC) stands tight with their demand and issue no mercy to the calls for suspension of the economic blockade along the National Highways, people across the valley region now started protesting by imposing counter blockade at various routes which leads to hill district.
Police personnel which intervene the counter blockade faced serious blow as enraged people questions on why they should showed their might only to the counter blockade enforcers while those holding the breathe of the valley people are left unattended.
“Yesterday 9 people enforcing counter economic blockade against the UNC’s economic blockade were detained by Kakching police. We at the Kakching appreciated the move but as the same kind of action could not be done to those imposing economic blockade on High Ways by vandalising various trucks carrying essential commodities we felt that the police don’t have the right to detain counter blockade supporters”, Umakanta said while talking over phone to Imphal Times.
Around 11 pm yesterday, large number of people storms the Kakching Police station demanding released of the 9 persons. As the situation goes out of hand with the kind of pressure from Kakching residents, the 9 persons were released without condition, a report said.
Protest and counter blockade continue:
Kakching Keithel, a commercial hub in Thoubal district today shut down from 11 am till 3 pm today and vendor ladies and shop owners staged protest demonstration against the UNC’s economic blockade as well as government’s inaction to solve the matters. When the protest is being underway large number of volunteers came out at Kakching Lamkhai and pull down edible commodities which were carrying towards Chandel district. Those commodities were scattered on the road and destroyed, however, vehicles were left unharmed.
Counter Blockade at Jiribam:
At Jiribam of Imphal East too, enraged locals of Jiribam pull down vegetables and other essential commodities from trucks and burnt it in public. Report reaching here said that at around 8.30 am today morning large number of people gathered at Pangal Tabi Babupara and Chandrapur and pull down the essential commodities from the trucks which were left stranded for days as no security escort arrived. The truckers reportedly plead the counter blockade supporters saying that those items were to be taken to Imphal but they were not listened.
Counter blockade at Khurai:
At Khurai in Imphal East too large number of people stopped vehicles carrying goods towards Ukhrul district. Vehicles found with edible items including vegetable were halted and those volunteers pull down whatever found inside the vehicles. A mini truck carrying food items for army was also halt and volunteers pulled down the materials. However after army rushed and claimed the items for use of those security forces stationed at Ukhrul district it was let go.
NH 37
At NH37 many people in between Takyel to Moidangpok imposed the counter blockade. Trucks carrying edible items were detained and after pulling it down people burnt it by pouring inflammable.
