CoTU calls 24-hour shutdown in Kangpokpi from 6 pm today

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, has called a 24-hour total shutdown across Kangpokpi district from 6 pm today, citing the deteriorating security situation following reported attacks in Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts.

In a shutdown notice issued through its Information and Publicity Wing from its administrative office at Kangpokpi district headquarters, CoTU referred to reported attacks at Chassad in Kamjong district, Yaolen in Ukhrul district and along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district.

The committee alleged that the attacks involved Tangkhul and Liangmei elements associated with the NSCN-IM. The allegations could not be independently verified from the information available.

Describing the incidents as a serious threat to civilian safety, CoTU expressed concern over the possibility of further attacks in vulnerable areas and said the shutdown was intended as a precautionary measure to protect civilians and prevent further escalation of violence.

The committee condemned acts of violence and intimidation against civilians and urged the administration to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the safety of vulnerable communities.

CoTU appealed to residents, business establishments, transport operators and all concerned to observe the shutdown and extend cooperation. Emergency medical services and other essential life-saving services have been exempted from the shutdown, according to the notice.

The committee also urged the public to remain vigilant, maintain peace and refrain from actions that could aggravate the situation.
