A 63 year old man having a chronic history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and ischemic heart disease and who had tested positive for Coronavirus, succumbed to illness on Saturday night in Mumbai (Maharashtra), taking the death toll to five, officials said.
The man was admitted to the H N Reliance Hospital in South Mumbai on Saturday. He developed acute respiratory distress syndrome leading to his death, the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation said in a statement said. The total number of coronavirus positive patients in Maharashtra has risen to 74 with 10 more positive cases reported in the last 24 hours, officials said. Of the 10 new cases, 6 are in Mumbai and 4 in Pune, they said on Sunday.
The death toll due to the Coronavirus includes: The first casualty of coronavirus infection reported from Kalburgi in Karnataka. The second patient was a 68-year-old woman, who died at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Third patient with COVID-19 infection passed away in Mumbai’s Kasturba hospital(Maharashtra) late last week. The 70-year-old patient, who had developed morbid conditions like diabetes, in Punjab. The 63 year old man become the fifth victim.
Maharashtra has so far reported the highest number of Coronavirus cases in the country.
Earlier this week, a COVID-19 patient died in Mumbai. Now this is the second case of death due to coronavirus.
In the meanwhile a lock down was witnessed in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad,Nagpur and other areas of Maharashtra, in view of an appeal for “Janata Curfew” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
