Imphal, Aug 27:
Co-ordination Committee (CorCom), the conglomerate of proscribed groups of Manipur pays tribute to Haipou Jadonang (1905-1931), a great leader on the eve of his death anniversary. According to the press release signed by M Sak-hen, Media Co-Ordinator, CORCOM, the brave leader was hanged for standing up to the external forces who are constantly trying to destabilize the peaceful coexistence adopting independent traditions and beliefs that have been the hallmark of this state since time immemorial. Mentioning the leading role taken by the leader against the mighty British empire who, after conquering almost every territory in their path, took over the control over the state by force and introducing their beliefs and way of life, the release also recalls the efforts made by Jadonang in trying to preserve and improve on the culture and traditions and also to resist the external forces which was threatening to change the way of life for the people in the hills while subjecting them to exorbitant taxes, hard manual labour and other such excess by force. The release also stressed on the need for different communities to respect one another and to refrain from exerting control or subjugate weaker communities which will eventually lead to peaceful and understanding coexistence.
