COPMeV backs ongoing protests, warns of intensified stir

The Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims (COPMeV), Moreh, has warned of intensified agitations across Manipur if the State and Central governments continue to ignore demands raised by ongoing protest movements linked to the ethnic conflict in the state.
In a statement issued by COPMeV Convenor Th. Budha Meitei, the organisation announced its support to agitation programmes being spearheaded by civil society organisations and Meira Paibi groups since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023.
COPMeV expressed strong solidarity with the indefinite hunger strike launched by Jenifer Khaidem and the parallel protest being staged by women protesters at Sagolband. The organisation stated that it has been actively participating in and supporting the agitation movements.
According to the statement, Jenifer Khaidem, who began her hunger strike on May 3, 2026, continues the protest while undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital. COPMeV claimed that despite doctors advising nasal feeding due to her deteriorating condition, she has refused consent and remains firm on continuing the strike.
Expressing concern over the worsening health condition of the protesters, COPMeV urged the governments to immediately address the demands raised by the agitators and take concrete steps to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The organisation further cautioned that internally displaced persons (IDPs), along with COPMeV, may launch stronger agitation programmes in the coming days if authorities fail to respond decisively to the ongoing crisis.
