A supposedly team leader of the Manipur Police Commando, who had assaulted a doctor who was returning with his wife from CMC Hospital Koirengei last evening has been suspended by an order of the District Superintendent of Police, Imphal East today.
Dr K Soreingam, while returning from CMC Hospital Koirengei was brutally assaulted by a team of police Commando at Koirengei airfield area on National Highway 2 at around 8.15 pm yesterday in front of his wife who is also a doctor by profession. According to a complaint lodged at Heingang Police Station, Dr K Soreingam stated that he was thrashed with AK-Rifle butts besides slapping him even after identifying himself by showing his identity card.
Soon after receiving the report, the police registered a case and one police commando identified as Collin Kshetrimayum (the policeman involved) was put under suspension for his grave misconduct and dereliction of duty. During his suspension, Collin will be at Reserved line Porompat and he shall not be allowed to leave his headquarter without obtaining prior permission from the SP Imphal East.
Meanwhile, the Teachers’ Association, of JN Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) had expressed strong condemnation for the violent assault meted out to Dr K Soreingam of JNIMS while returning from CMC Hospital Koirengei yesterday after picking up his wife who did her duty there as a doctor, by two security personnel at Luwangsangbam, right in front Chief Minister of Manipur residence Imphal East District.
What traumatize most is that, even after showing his service ID Card, he was hit with the service-rifle butt on his head, and also an attempt on his life was made by loading the AK rifle. This was in addition to other verbal and physical assaults meted out to him, as a statement by the doctor’s body said.
JN Institute of Medical Sciences of Teachers’ Association, strongly appeals to the government to take appropriate and exemplary action against the erring and barbaric security personnel.
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) – a Tangkhul students’ body also condemn such irresponsible action of the police personnel terming it as ‘Barbaric act and atrocities of the Manipur Police’. The student bodies demanded immediate delivery of justice to Dr K Soreingam.
The irresponsible barbaric act of the police is also condemned by the All Manipur tribal Union, Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur branch, the Management of Catholic Medical Centre (CMC Hospital), Koirengei Etc.
A statement from the CMC hospital said that they strongly condemn the behavior of Manipur Police Commando who has assaulted the husband (Dr. K. Soreingam) who has come to pick up Dr. Lumthing RV, who is the Gynaecologist of the CMC Hospital after conducting an Emergency Operation at the Hospital. The incident took place at the night of 2nd September 2021 (around 8.15 pm) in front of the Chief Minister Residence, Luwangshangbam.
The management requested the concerned authority to take appropriate action against those who were involved in that incident and should not be repeated in the future to the Doctors and Staff of the Hospital.
