A one day consultation meet on “Gender Inequality and its effect in Manipur” jointly organized by Women Action for Development (WAD) and Centre for Social Development (CDS) at the Giving Tree, Sangaiprou on Friday resolved to push up series of demand to the state government to form a state gender policy and to keep separate gender budget . The consultation meeting also demanded to review all the textbooks of Manipur where women are portrayed in a degrading way particularly to review the book “Nachom” urgently.
The meet also demanded to include gender issues in the syllabus and curriculum right from primary level and appoint women judge in every district and also to redress problems of street venders.
Other resolution adopted to push up to the notice of the government also included to install DNA machines to speed up pending cases related to Crime Against Women. The meet also resolved to urge the government for introduction of policy to respond to the prevailing reproductive health situation to improve standard of living and quality of living and quality of life of women and bridge the inequality gaps.
The consultative programmme was held in connection with the Fortnight Observation of 16 days Activism Against Gender base Violence. Many resource persons spoke on different topics including problem faced by women in Manipur during the pandemic and its legal issues.
Some of the speakers includes Ms. Sobita Mangsatabam , Secy WAD, Social Activist Priyadarshini Gangte, Project manager of CDS Phamila Tuithung, Journalist Liklai Leima, Baby Shirin amd Clinical psychologist Paonam Thoibi.
Some of the victims of gender violence and inequality narrated their stories of they have been deprived.
