Imphal, July 7:

State Congress leaders, along with AICC state-in-charge Girish Chodankar, convened to deliberate on the upcoming visit of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to Manipur. Scheduled for Monday, Gandhi’s itinerary includes engaging with individuals affected by recent violence in Jiribam, Churachandpur, and Imphal. His agenda include spending the entire day with the state’s populace.
The meeting, held today, was attended by Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra, Congress Legislature Party leader O Ibobi Singh, Congress MPs Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Alfred Kanngam Arthur, and Girish Chodankar. A party leader stated, “Rahul Gandhi has chosen to visit Manipur where peace is paramount. We are grateful for his decision to visit the state after assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha.”
Keisham Meghachandra detailed Rahul Gandhi’s travel plans, stating that he will fly from Delhi to Silchar, then proceed to Jiribam district, which recently experienced violence on June 6. “Rahul Gandhi will visit several relief camps in the district, then return to Silchar airport and fly to Imphal, Meghachandra explained.
In Imphal, he will travel to Churachandpur district to interact with people in relief camps. Following his visit to Churachandpur, Rahul Gandhi will travel by road to Moirang in Bishnupur district to visit additional relief camps before returning to Imphal for a planned meeting with Governor Anusuiya Uikey. Thereafter, he will depart from the state, added Meghachandra.
This visit marks Rahul Gandhi’s first return to Manipur since the widely publicized Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which was flagged off in Thoubal on January 14, 2024, by Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi himself during an event in Khongjom, Thoubal.
In anticipation of his visit, security measures in Manipur have been significantly heightened, officials confirmed.
