Congress leader Pawan Khera urges PM Modi to visit Manipur during Assam trip

Congress leader Pawan Khera has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit violence-affected Manipur during his ongoing visit to Assam, stating that the state should not be neglected amid continuing unrest.
In a post on X, Khera said that although the Prime Minister was in Assam to inaugurate and flag off development projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore, Manipur was “just an hour away” and deserved his immediate attention. He remarked that the state had been facing turmoil since 2023 and required reassurance at the highest level.
In a symbolic gesture, the Congress leader shared what he described as a flight ticket from Guwahati to Imphal, claiming that his party had “booked” it to facilitate the Prime Minister’s visit. He stated that the presence of the Prime Minister in Manipur would help instill confidence among residents affected by recurring instability.
Manipur has witnessed prolonged ethnic unrest since 2023, with sporadic incidents continuing to surface. On February 6, protests in Churachandpur district over the swearing-in of new Deputy Chief Ministers turned violent after clashes broke out between security personnel and demonstrators in the Tuibong Main Market area.
Earlier this week, several houses were set ablaze in villages near Litan in Ukhrul district. According to Manipur Police, a Joint Control Room has been set up at Litan Police Station to coordinate security measures, and senior officers have been deployed to monitor the situation. The police stated that the overall law and order situation remained normal during the last twenty-four hours.
