Congress demands a comprehensive plan for water management; Condemn detention of P Saratchandra

As the world observed World Water Day, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today demanded the government to form a comprehensive and master plan for water management.

In a press meet, held today at Rishang Keishing Media Centre at Congress Bhavan here in Imphal veteran politician O Joy said that putting up hoardings or posters with the slogan ‘SAVE RIVER’ will not save the rivers without acting by making proper planning.

“Is there a Comprehensive Master plan to save the River” O joy question? He further said that saving the Nambul River is meaningless when other major Rivers of the state is not preserved.

He said that water has become so important for all people across the globe and every nation is preparing a masterplan to protect rivers as well as the groundwater. A German Scientist had studied the level of ground River in Manipur and it is on record. The government should make a plan to increase the groundwater level.

Without taking up any planning to protect the river and groundwater as well as the wetland, it is meaningless to celebrate World Water Day.

In Connection with the stopping of one P Saratchandra demonstrating a solo marathon at Heingang assembly constituency, O Joy said that the attitude of the government is totalitarian and Dictatorial. He said that when some Ministers or their relatives commit crimes even firing licensed guns no case has been registered.

“We condemn the detention of P Saratchandra”, Joy said.

The press meet was attended by various leaders of the Congress party.
