Congress candidate of Wangjing Tentha By-election, Moirangthem Hemanta, who is also the Vice President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, has lodged a complaint to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for excess use of expenditure in violation to the limitation given by the ECI.
The expenditure allowed by each candidate as prescribed by the ECI is Rs. 22 lakhs , however BJP candidate Paonam Brojen has spent more than the amount prescribed by the ECI in the election campaign at Wangjing Tentha , Congress candidate said in a video released to media houses.
He said that the BJP candidate Paonam Brojen is giving two kinds of flag to each of his supporters. The party flags were erected by his supporters who get NFSA rice and who are members of the women committee. And other flags he provided to his supporter are with the word “We Support P. Brojen”.
People with the later flags were promised with road repairing, jobs etc.
Hemanta further said that the very act of using two flags is complete violation of the notification issued by the District Election Officer Thoubal in connection with the Roles of items for use in the ensuing By Election to Manipur Legislative Assembly Election.
He demanded physical count for all the flags he is using to the Election Observers and reflect it to the election expenditure.
He further said that he had formally lodged a complaint in connection with the excess use of expenditure by BJP candidate Paonam Brojen to the Returning Officer 34-Wangjing Tentha A/C and District Election Officer Thoubal.
