Congress appoints Biswaranjan Mohanty as Manipur War Room chief

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Biswaranjan Mohanty as chairperson of its War Room for Manipur ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, as the party steps up preparations for the upcoming electoral contest.

According to a press release issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, the Congress president has approved the appointment of War Room chairpersons for five states, with immediate effect.

Besides Mohanty for Manipur, Sachin Yadav has been appointed for Uttar Pradesh, Kannan Gopinathan for Punjab, Imroz Khan for Goa and Krishan Satrod for Uttarakhand.

The appointments were announced through an official communication dated October 24, 2026, issued from the party headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, New Delhi. The release stated that the appointments had been approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The appointment in Manipur comes as political parties begin preparations for the Assembly elections expected in 2027. The Congress is seeking to strengthen its organisational structure in the state amid continuing concerns over the prolonged ethnic crisis, displacement and political instability.

The War Room is expected to serve as a central coordination hub for campaign planning, communication, data analysis and coordination with the party’s organisational units. Its activities could include booth-level preparation, candidate coordination and election-related messaging.
