Cone launches HCV advocacy campaign

Imphal July 10: In connection with the world Hepatitis day, Community Network for Empowerment (CONE), Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur and Zydus Heptiza launched a month long Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) advocacy campaign today at Manipur Press Club.The campaign aims to spread awareness to the people about the most common chronic blood-borne virus called Hepatitis C which has become a serious threat to the society. The month long advocacy campaign, under the initiative of government’s policy, will be conducted through radio, television, pamphlets, road show and audio record play.Attending the function as Guest of Honour, Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, IAS, Project Director, Manipur State AIDS control Society said the problem of HCV has become a big concern to the society as the state is highly inflated with HIV diseases. In order to tackle such chronic viruses coordination is required from all the sectors and the money provided by the government should be utilised properly, said Shailesh.Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, L. Ibohalbi Singh, MLA Oinam A/C and Secretary Legislative Forum on HIV/AIDS (LFA), Government of Manipur said that HCV became a big threat to the society while struggling to control the epidemic HIV/AIDS. There is a need to amend the old policy of Manipur State Aids Control policy and build a new policy to tackle HIV/AIDS and HCV, said Ibohalbi.Dr. Kh. Sashikumar Mangang, Joint director, Directorate of health Services, Government of Manipur attended the kick off ceremony of HCV advocacy campaign as President said that Hep C is an explosive virus which is spreading rapidly and the government should take a precaution to prevent from a big hazard.
