Complaint lodged to MHRC for uploading of photos of rape victims

Imphal, Sept 9:

The Manipur Human Rights Commission has registered a case in connection with the uploading of minor rape victim at social media. The complaint was filed by the President of Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights in connection with the disclosure of Identity of a Minor Girl of the Mayang Imphal Incident by various sections of the societies which is a violation of Section 23 of POCSO Act, 2012 and 228 A of IPC.

After due proceeding by the commission, the Director General of Police has been directed to take appropriate legal action against the person who first uploaded the photographs of a victim girl.

And also directed the DGP to advice the SPs of all the districts to organise awareness programme in collaboration with the local clubs, Meira Paibis, youths and students so that common people are aware about the relevant law.
