Community Colleges established for imparting skill and job oriented courses

Imphal, June 9: With an aim to impart skill and job oriented courses under UGC, the following Community Colleges have so far been established in the name of D.M. Community College, Churachandpur Community College, Pettigrew Community College, S.K. Womens’ Community College, C.I. Community College, N.G. Community College and Goura Govinda Community College.
During the last 15 years a number of infrastructure development works have been executed in different Government and Government Aided Colleges of Manipur under different funding mechanisms. Some of the important works taken up under different funding mechanisms are as follows :
30 Multipurpose Halls and a number of Classrooms at 30 Government/ Government Aided colleges with a sum of Rs. 11.15 crore under NLCPR funding (sanctioned in 2000 – 2001) were constructed.
During 2010 – 11 the M/o DoNER conveyed approval for infrastructure Upgradation at 9 Govt. Colleges in the Valley and Hill Districts of Manipur , with a cost of 9.72 crore . Under the project, works namely Construction of a Mini Stadium Complex at D.M. College Campus, Compound Wall fencing at 9 Govt. Colleges and 4 Multipurpose Halls at 4 Govt. Colleges are in good progress. M/o DoNER has so far released a sum of Rs. 641.06 lakh against the approved project cost of Rs. 874.86 lakh.  Physically,  75%  of the works have been completed.
Under ACA/SCA/SPA construction of various buildings, like –  Teachers’ Quarters, Students’ Hostels, Science Laboratories, Administrative Building were taken in 14 different Govt. Colleges with a cost of Rs. 18.00 crore during 2004-05. Construction of 3 – storied Academic Building was taken up at LMS Law Colleges with a cost of Rs. 4.00 crore under SPA during 2008 – 09 and 2009 – 10. Construction of Academic and Science Laboratory Buildings were taken up under SPA/SCA funding at 10 Govt. colleges with Rs. 20.00 crore during 2008 – 09 and 2009 -10. During 2007-08, a sum of Rs. 10.00 crore was make available to NIT, Manipur under SPA with the apportionment of Rs. 5.00 crore each for land acquisition and construction of compound wall fencing at its Permanent Complex  at Langol.
Construction of Science Laboratory Blocks at Thoubal college, Thoubal and United College, Chandel has been taken up under NEC with an approved cost of Rs. 471.17 and Rs. 472.00 crore, respectively. The NEC has so far released the total amount of their share for the works. Physical progress of Thoubal College is 100% and that of United College is 80%.
The Regional Campus of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University was inaugurated by Shri O. Ibobi Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Manipur on 9th September, 2009, temporarily at Adimjati Shiksha Ashram, Imphal. The Department spent Rs. 7.65 crore for acquisition of 301.86acres of land at its Permanent campus at Makhan Village at Gamphazol Sub -Division of Senapati District.
A sum of Rs. 1.35 crore had been spent by the Department for Upgradation of its temporary campus at Adimjati Sisksha Ashram. Over and above, the State Govt. has provided funds for the construction of Approach Road, Power and Water to the permanent site of the said Regional Centre.
The State Higher Education Council had been established in 2013 and under it the Rastriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan Project has been started its implementation. The Ministry of HRD, Government of India has so far made a sum of Rs. 121.50 crore available for different academic and infrastructure development activities.
