Commander of KCP Lamphel laid down arms before CM

Imphal, June 19: One self styled Commander of Kangleipak Communist Party – Lamphel faction(KCP-Lamphel) surrendered to the government this afternoon at a function at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
The militant commander namely Soraisam Modhuchandra Singh of Thangmeiband in Imphal West surrendered along with two 9mm pistols with two magazines and nine live rounds before Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Speaking at the occasion, the State Chief Minister said, the militant leader came out to join the national mainstream keeping faith in the new government’s development initiatives for the marginalized sections of the society. He also appealed the militant outfits in the state to shun the path of violence and join the national mainstream. He said, the militants who have surrendered to the Government before four years will be allowed to return to their respective homes and engage in vocational training to be organized by the state government from the 30th of this month.
Mr. Biren further said, the surrendered militants after being trained in their appropriate trades will be given financial assistance under suitable welfare schemes of the government for their livelihood. State DGP L. M. Khaute also attended the function.
