Imphal, Jan 28:

Sit-in-protests cum meeting of all the Government Colleges was organised by FEGOCTA today at N.G. College, Imphal. The meeting appeals to the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren for his immediate intervention to issue orders 7th UGC Pay and Regulation, 2018.
The meeting also raised several questions: like if the Higher Education Department is more powerful and above the Cabinet headed by the Chief Minister. It also asked – What is the real motive of failing to send the file even to Finance Department for over five months? Why there are frequent agitations by the College teachers? Why Higher Education Department refuses to implement national policy of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 approved by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi three years ago?
FEGOCTA said it has repeatedly requested to issue the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 for over five months and set the deadline of January 27 by written submission on January 11.
The meeting decided to continue all forms of democratic agitators by the Government College teachers till the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 are issued. Only the boycott of classes is exempted considering the interests of the students for the semester examinations starting from April, 2021. FEGOCTA is the only teachers’ body, who conducted online classes for under-graduate courses during Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 in collaboration with EMRC, Manipur University. It requested to start the online classes to the Higher Education Department. FEGOCTA is seriously concerned at the absence of clear SOPs as per UGC guidelines by the concerned authorities after the opening of the Colleges risking the health and life of the students and teachers.
